Nick and Rachel headed down to the luxury surroundings of Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens on Saturday and spent the afternoon supping champagne (well the 22 ladies participating did!), munching on delicious sandwiches and cakes (once the 22 ladies had gone home!) but mostly demonstrating current flowers trends as well as Mood Flowers signature pieces.

Last October Francesca and Iain were married at one of our favourite city centre venues, 29 Royal Exchange Square. The stunning bride chose simple yet timeless Sweet Avalanche roses for herself and her bridal party.

Happy Burns Night!

Robert Burns was a great fan of flowers in his poems so this evening we enjoyed creating seventy five table centres for a large Burns Night celebration at the SECC. We combined thistle with coolwater roses, purple veronica, limonium and folded aspistra leaves to create centrepieces with a Scottish flavour. They looked great at the studio en masse and atmospheric under the event lights at the venue.

We have set up our final event of the year - the Gathering of the Clans at Cameron House - where we created contemporary Scottish table displays using thistle, liatris, and veronica with a hint of tartan and lots of candlelight.

Our final weddings of 2011

This week we completed our final weddings of the year at Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens and House for an Art Lover.

For the first wedding we combined crisp white ranunculus with anemones, Viviane roses and delicate helleborus. For the second we used hundreds of Coolwater roses to complement the colour scheme of the Music Room at House for an Art Lover.

We wish both couples our best wishes as they start 2012 together!

'Twas the night before Christmas...

Christmas at Cameron House

Today we spent the day at Cameron House on the banks of Loch Lomond installing Christmas. This involved decorating eleven Nordman Fir Christmas trees, garlands for the fireplaces and the entrance staircase, a poinsettia display above the beautifully crafted revolving door and filling the hotel with vases of ilex berries and red cornus. We wish we were heading to this stunning property to stay this Christmas......

The View - House for an Art Lover

We were delighted to work with House for an Art Lover this morning designing flowers for their beautiful new meeting space 'The View'. Not only did it give us a little respite in a crazy week of Christmas installations but it allowed us to bring a simple aesthetic to this Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed building using classic Mackintosh flowers in the form of tulips and calla lilies.

Not quite December yet but today we designed and delivered our first winter wedding of the season. Combinations of deep velvet red Grand Prix roses, ivory Avalanche roses, gerbera and hypericum berries were used for the bouquets, aisle, ceremony and tables.

We've had a busy few days at our Flower School with the Signature Style Masterclass on Sunday and Table Centrepieces last night. We love teaching our skills and style and had some great participants on both classes.

Next up are the Christmas classes which take place on Thursday 22nd December before we start the new year with lots of new additions to our schedule including our One Week Career Course - there are only two spaces left on this so please get in touch soon if you would like to take your first steps into a new career.

Bar Mitzvah at Radisson Blu

On Saturday we created flower designs for a Bar Mitzvah. In the morning, we filled the synagogue with white phalaenopsis orchids then used 1,500 Grand Prix roses to create architectural table centrepieces for dinner in the Radisson Blu hotel. With help from events company Banana Split, who lit the room beautifully, we were delighted with the results.

Last weekend we got the opportunity to fill the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow with beautiful Avalanche and Sweet Avalanche roses. Guests were greeted by an avenue of floor standing candelabras to the chuppah ceremony area. Dinner was served in the ballroom where we brought some old fashioned glamour with trailing pearl beads attached to our silver candelabras.

It was a pleasure for us to be involved in the two day Scotland Means Business campaign with VisitScotand, allowing us to work in two of our city's finest buildings: the Kelvingrove Museum and the Science Centre. We sculpted yellow tulips into fishbowl vases for the Science Museum but went for more Scottish themed colours and flowers for Kelvingrove combining thistles with coolwater roses and purple veronica.

Next weekend we shall once again be taking part in the Homes and Interiors Scotland Exhibition at the SECC from Friday 28th October until Sunday 30th October. The show is open from 10am until 5pm each day. This is the 7th year we have taken part in the show and we can't wait.

Last night we delivered simple but stylish table centres to the CIPR Pride Awards event at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow. This popular design provides pops of colour through the room but doesn't restrict the view. Available in all colours except blue and purple (because they don't grow gerbera that colour yet)!

Last Sunday we met lots of brides and grooms at the Wedding Open Day at Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens. We showed a fireplace of snowberries, a hydrangea wishing tree and some luxurious table centres and bridal bouquets. It was great to meet up with Twenty Seven Stationery (thanks for completing our wishing tree Emma) and Heathers Cakes (amazing cup cakes and cake pops Heather).

Today we were asked to create flowers for a 1930s themed event at the new Riverside Museum. We combined dahlia with roses, delphinium, stock, gladioli and carnations (yes, carnations!) to create a bit of vintage retro.

Laura and the team headed to Dunblane on Tuesday to create a wedding using hundreds of glass cylinder vases and floating candles. The bride had chosen Sweet Avalanche roses, Akito roses, pink hydrangea and Tikal phalaenopsis orchids to create a simple but stunning effect. We had to set up around 150 cylinders full of water but we think it was worth it!

The Hour comes to the Mood Flowers Studio

On Monday our studio was turned into a TV studio for a few hours as Nick filmed his latest piece of VT for STV's The Hour, showing online viewers how he creates the flowers for the set every week. Combining rich tones of reds and pinks, using Grand Prix roses, Amalia roses and Protea Waratha, he created a large vase arrangement giving lots of tips along the way. Last Sunday Nick and Laura created a beautiful autumnal wedding at Cameron House with a floral archway as the centrepiece. They combined Amnesia roses with hydrangea, rosemary, trailing amaranthus and contorted willow to create bouquets, table centrepieces, a wishing tree, a four tier cake and the archway. The bride was the epitomy of style and a pleasure to work with. Congratulations to Erin and Elliott!

On Friday evening Nick headed down to the STV studios to hand over a cheque for over £2,000 which he raised with the other resident experts on 'The Hour", Karon Grieve, Doctor Debbie, Bruce Devlin and Stella Bartram. They spent a great evening at STV HQ with Lorraine Kelly where over £1.2 million was raised on the night.

Phalaenopsis Orchid Wedding

Today was a great day. We worked with a dream client and some other fantastic suppliers to pull off a stunning white phalaenopsis orchid wedding. Over 2000 orchids were used to create bouquets, entrance arrangements, an orchid cloud suspended above a perspex chuppah and elegant candelabra displays for each of the 21 tables. It meant getting up at 5am but we think it was worth it.

A special mention to Cameron House (especially Lindsay Jones), Colin Lipsey at Display Works and Janet at Starlit Floors - the perspex chuppah worked a treat! Congratulations to the happy couple Dionne and Matt.

Afternoon Tea Flower School

Last weekend we kicked off our fourth year of Flower School classes with an afternoon tea taster class in the luxurious surroundings of Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens. 14 participants enjoyed a fun filled afternoon which involved, watching flowers, champagne, making flowers, tea, watching more flowers and lots of cakes and sandwiches.

The next Afternoon Tea Flower School class will take place on Sunday 28th January 2012 at Hotel du Vin and the next Flower School class - Luxury Hand Tied Bouquet - will take place at our studio on Saturday 18th September 2011.

A History Lesson

Nick was clearing out some old boxes at home today and came across this set of first day cover stamps which his granny collected back in 1976, when a first class stamp cost 10p! The stamps celebrate the centenary of The Royal National Rose Society and include the varieties Sweet Briar, Rosa Mundi, Grandpa Dickson and Elizabeth of Glamis.

Yesterday, the sun shone in Balfron and at Cameron House for Jen and Mike's wedding. They opted for vintage style roses and chose varieties such as Amnesia, Vendela, Avalanche and Sweet Avalanche for the beautiful church and the luxurious Lomond Suite. We loved all the little touches like the vintage suitcase table plan, the antique teacups and the bunting on the gazebo.

Sherwood Forest at Culzean Castle

Our team headed down to Culzean Castle last Thursday to start a 3 day build for Saturday's wedding. Our brief from the talented Cheryl and Lucy at Premier Wedding Planners Scotland was to recreate Sherwood Forest with a few Scottish touches. By the time we put in the 12 foot birch trees, and created the 6 foot stag, overhanging forest canopy and sumptuous flower arrangements for the 36 tables the look was complete. Guests at the wedding were treated to lots of unique touches including a vintage ice cream cart, living statues and an incredible cake by Paul Bradford.

Purple and ivory are proving to be one of the most popular colour combinations during our 2011 wedding season. More and more of our brides are choosing to include deep violets, purples and aubergines for their wedding flowers. Luckily Mother Nature, via those clever growers in Holland, provides hydrangea, lisianthus and vanda orchids in these shades.

The summer sun has finally made it to the west coast of Scotland and there couldn't have been a better week with two outdoor ceremonies planned amongst our eight weddings. Highlights of the week including a contemporary castle wedding at Glenskirlie, an outdoor ceremony at Gleddoch overlooking the Firth of Clyde and an outdoor chuppah ceremony at Turnberry with beautiful views out to Ailsa Craig.

Today we created some shabby chic bridemaids' bouquets using Esperance and Amnesia roses, dahlias, pink and white peonies and green hydrangea finished off with grey satin ribbon.

A Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi!

It was appropriate that today on Bastille Day, we created flowers for a French couple marrying at Cameron House on the banks of Loch Lomond working with the amazing Cheryl and Lucy at Premier Wedding Planners Scotland. The ceremony flowers had a certain je ne sais quoi with combinations of hydrangea and mitsumata branches emerging from silver birch troughs. The table flowers were tres chic compositions of white stock, cotton, hydrangea and peonies with potted kitty grass. The piece de resistance was the bouquet of white peonies which we managed to source despite it being the end of the peony season. Felicitations to the happy couple!

On Sunday we created a contemporary Scottish tablescape for a private dinner at One Devonshire Gardens using eryngium, hydrangea and vanda orchids, interspersing the main arrangements with mini vases, hurricane lamps and frosted tea lights.

A surefire way to brighten up your wedding flowers is choosing beautifullly bright Purple Power roses. These cerise pink roses are fairly new to the market and their large heads make them perfect for a bridal bouquet. They were delivered on Saturday for a wedding at 29 Royal Exchange Square.

The four weddings we designed flowers for last Friday showed how diverse each of our brides' tastes are. Working around the colour scheme of each wedding we created a whole range of different designs for weddings at 10 Queen's Drive, Gleddoch, Mansfield Traquair and Dalmeny Park.

Despite the rain, today's wedding at Glenskirlie Castle was a riot of bright cerise and orange flowers. We combined roses, gerbera and phalaenopis orchids to create bouquets, buttonholes, ceremony vases, table centres and cake flowers.

At last summer is here! On Saturday Vivienne and her team headed to Mar Hall to set up a wedding, Lucy and her team went to Glenskirlie and Nick and his team headed to Cameron House to set up this stunning wedding of peonies, hydrangea and roses. The sun shone, the bride looked radiant and we all lived happily ever after........

Our 2011/12 timetable for our Flower School classes has just been released. This year we've added a Taster Class at Hotel du Vin including afternoon tea, a Bridal Bouquet and Buttonhole class as well as a One Week Career Course for anyone looking to kickstart a career in floristry.

We've also included some old favourites including a fully revised Flowers for the Home class and our very popular Christmas classes - book these early to avoid disappointment.

Perfect Sunday Wedding

Today we set off to Cameron House to set up a beautiful wedding combining Aqua and Purple Power roses in large low cylinder vases. We managed to squeeze all 20 table centres into the van along with the bridal party flowers and headed to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Congratulations to Kim and Rob on their special day!

Choose A Colour Theme

If you're planning your wedding then our advice is to choose a colour theme of no more than three colours and stick to it. This will enhance the overall look of your wedding. Two of the weddings we created flowers for yesterday at Cameron House and Enterkine House chose black & white and orange & cerise pink - both perfect combinations.

Yesterday it poured with rain all day so hopefully our flowers brought a little summer sun to Norma and William on their wedding day. We combined peonies, hydrangea, roses, gloriosa lilies, stock and cymbidium orchids to create these bright table centres.

We love it when brides go all out with their ceremony flowers. These massive urn arrangements at the University of Glasgow Chapel on Saturday were complemented with bolder bouquets and beautiful centrepieces for the tables later on in the day.

We are now in the full grip of wedding fever which will last through until September. We love creating different designs and colour schemes for each of our brides to ensure that their weddings are all unique and individual. This season has started with bold blasts of colour as well as the more classic whites and ivories with peonies, roses and hydrangea featuring heavily over the past week.

Nick & Vivienne are just back from yet another trip to New Covent Garden Flower Market in London. Inspired by seasonal peonies, giant eremurus and tropical curcuma as well as a multitude of vases and props in all shapes and sizes they headed back to Glasgow with a full van load.
